Queensland Moto Park officially open!
The opening of the facility, which hosts three motocross tracks, a pee wee track and novice area, a freestyle motocross track and up to 40 kilometres of recreational trails, comes after two years of extensive planning and hard work by the Council of Mayors (SEQ), the State Government and Motorcycling Queensland.
Councillor Graham Quirk said eight SEQ Councils had provided a total of $1.44 million in funding to help make the trail bike park a reality.
South East Queensland councils are serious about dealing with the issue of illegal trail bike riding in their communities, he said.
We identified the lack of safe and legal places to ride as a real issue in our region and that is why councils have invested in getting this great new regional facility up and running.
This site at Wyaralong has ideal terrain for trail bike riding and is some distance from built-up areas so noise or dust wont be an issue.
The site is ideally positioned within easy reach of trail bike riders not only from Brisbane but across South East Queensland.
Cr Quirk said riders would have the opportunity of exploring marked trails through the hills and bushlands of the property or testing their skills on the three motocross tracks designed by international motocross stars Matt Schubring and Steve Sommerfeld.
Mr Reeves said the Bligh Government recognised the need for quality legal trail bike riding facilities in South East Queensland.
As a result, we have provided 745 hectares of public land plus a $1.2 million capital grant to SEQ councils to develop this much needed facility for the regions thousands of riders to enjoy, Mr Reeves said.
The opening of this facility after two years of planning work represents a strong partnership between the Bligh Government, SEQ Councils and Motorcycling Queensland.
This is a quality facility with 40km of recreational trails, three motocross circuits and all the facilities needed for a fun family outing for trail bike enthusiasts.
It complements the facilities the State has provided for mountain bikers, horse riders and bushwalkers at the Mt Joyce Recreation Park marking Wyaralong as a key new recreation destination in South East Queensland.
As a Government, we invest more in sport and recreation than any other state from the grassroots right up to the elite, which further reinforces our reputation as the Champions State and the Events State as well.
Queensland Moto Park will be open to the public from 19 December 2011 and will be operated by Motorcycling Queensland, who also contributed $900,000 in funding to the park. Development of the trail bike park will continue with the addition of further camping facilities, an amenities block, a kiosk and further recreational trails.
