Valyside 'Under the Fender' FMX Coaching was better than expected!
When we were coming up with the idea to do a coaching day at Valyside's compound, we knew it had to look bloody good. Red Bull jumped at the idea, and with those guys behind the scenes helping out, we knew for a small coaching day it was going to look more like a FMX Competition.Mission accomplished. After we got the basics out of the way with bike set ups, gear and talking about ramps, we had everyone jumping a dirt tabletop to see how everyone was looking. There were no issues there and we were confident we had a really solid group of 20 riders to go hit the ramp.We even had 5 riders who have never even hit a ramp before, and every one of them made it over the jump easily and then had every single one of them jumping 50 feet by the end of the day.Red Bull had a DJ and a lounge area set up as well, so all day we had music playing and the friends and family of the riders being coached had somewhere to chill out all day. Not to mention Red Bull set up their Archway across the run up to 60 foot and 75 foot ramp which looked really cool to see fresh faces riding through under the archway that is normally reserved for big competitions. We had plenty of guys jumping from 50ft up to 60ft and then 75ft. And a lot of riders really surprised Schuie and I with how fast they progressed in the day. Even though Sheeny couldn't make it to the coaching day because he's off at Travis Pastrana's training for the week before Madrid X-Fighters, we put up a little competition to see who could run the fastest in a full set of gear. Well, that was pretty comical, but Brent Henry picked up the signed Sheeny gloves. In the end, the day went extremely well, and now with Schuie and I doing a road-trip in about 5 weeks time to Perth again, we are going to try run another Coaching day when we get back there! Thanks to Valyside for their overwhelming support of the FMX Coaching day, and taking on our idea to run the coaching day on the Valyside compound. Red Bull for coming on and helping out with so much of the infrastructure for the day and supplying an endless supply of RB cans! Phloppy from DirtShape WA for building the course and making the course look like a competition course just with tabletop downramps. KTM for all their help and brand new tents for the day! FreeriderMX magazine chipped in with asweet bag of goodies for all the riders and you can read more about the coaching day in the next issue. And Liquid Surf stores for their support of Valyside in Western Australia in time for the coaching.
