Podium at Australian FMX Championships
Last weekend in Bali for the Indonesian International FMX Competition I was hoping to do well, and after qualifying in first position I thought I'd be fine to get at least a podium or go on to win the competition. But in my final run I had a massive crash from a Double Nac and it basically came down to me being absolutely exhausted from organising the event under Invert Management and then trying to ride in 40 degree heat and 95% humidity. The end result was a crash that felt like my ribs were playing like an accordion, bruised lungs and bruised kidneys. I managed to change my flights so I could leave Bali and fly back to Brisbane and heal up and miss out on Narrogin in Perth, but I changed my mind again like I change my undies and I decided to stay in Perth and let my connecting flight to Brisbane go.It was a very rushed decision, but I thought while I was that sore on Monday and there was 5 more days until the competition, maybe if I stay in Perth I could heal up enough to ride. It was very optimistic, but I was getting the feeling closer to Saturday and Sunday's competition that I bit off more than I could chew and I wouldn't be able to ride.I rode practice and I only did 3 very basic tricks. I felt really sore and definitely had no confidence with the crash still in my mind. I almost pulled out of the competition when Burchy, Phloppy and the boys said to me "Just have fun, don't worry about what tricks you do" and that was it.I entered the competition and somehow, I managed to do a lot of my normal tricks. I had to drop a few tricks that I simply couldn't do while injured, but I did just enough to take out 3rd place behind Steve Mini in first and Brad Burch in second place. I couldn't have been happier with the result, and to think I almost missed it would have been a shame. Thanks to everyone who helped me out, all the FMX boys in Bali who gathered around and helped me while I was spitting out dirt and not wanting to get man-handled by the Indonesian flag-marshalls and also Kym and Sian for helping me change flights and giving me a nice place to stay before I left. Andrie for all of his help in Indonesia too while I was injured. Also, huge thanks to Phloppy for finding me a bike to borrow in Perth and all the running around he did, plus Fraser for letting me borrow his KTM steed! Brad and Karen for running Narrogin again and Seb from Valyside for hooking everything up while I'm here for Narrogin. Thanks to sponsors, Lakes Networking for having me in Perth once again and getting more presents of phones and goodies while I'm here, Valyside, Fox, GB Orthopaedics, Q-Magnets, SportsCamera.com.au, Motoz, Motorex, TAG, DB Race Suspension.
